Gamescom 2026: U4N Meets POE 2 in a Stunning Demo (55 อ่าน)

If you were wandering the halls of gamescom this year and noticed a crowd that looked like a sea of restless exiles, you had probably found the Grinding Gear Games booth. The hype surrounding Path of Exile 2 has reached a fever pitch, and the exclusive demo they brought to Cologne did not disappoint. After spending a solid chunk of my day waiting in line, I finally got to sit down and experience what the development team has been cooking for the past few years. It is safe to say that the game feels incredibly polished, and the changes to the core formula are going to shake up the ARPG scene in a major way.
Right from the start, the demo made it clear that this is a different beast than its predecessor. The developers have taken great care to address the pain points of the original while pushing the boundaries of what the genre can do. For instance, the introduction of the decoupled skill-gem system is a game-changer. You no longer have to pray for the right socket colors on your chest piece to make your build work. Instead, you can slot support gems directly into your active skills, which opens up a world of possibilities. During my session, I noticed that POE 2 Items dropped frequently and with generous modifiers, giving me a clear sense of progression even within a short playtime. This approach makes the loot hunt feel rewarding from the very first moment, and it is a smart way to keep players engaged.
Active Defenses and Fluid Combat
The highlight of the demo for me was the combat mechanics. The addition of active defenses, specifically the dodge roll and the new shield block system, adds a layer of skill that was missing before. I found myself weaving through enemy attacks, timing my blocks just right to stagger foes, and using the environment to my advantage. It is responsive, tactile, and incredibly satisfying. The controller support was also surprisingly tight, making the experience feel just as good on a gamepad as it does with a mouse and keyboard. Combined with the automated weapon swapping feature, switching between different playstyles mid-combat felt seamless. This is a testament to how much effort GGG has put into making the game accessible without sacrificing depth.
What the Future Holds for Endgame
Another aspect that has the community buzzing is the inclusion of new base classes. The demo gave us a chance to test unreleased archetypes like the Templar, and the early impressions are overwhelmingly positive. The skill animations are fluid, the ascendancy passives look intriguing, and the overall feel of each class is distinct. Of course, the real test will be the endgame, where players will push these builds to their limits. While the demo only scratched the surface, it provided a tantalizing glimpse of what is to come. The campaign content on display was challenging, especially in Act 5 where the difficulty curve spikes significantly.
Booth Experience and Merch
Aside from the gameplay, the booth itself was a spectacle. The eerie backdrop, filled with towering sculptures of Wraeclast's new monsters, made for great photo opportunities. The exclusive merchandise was also a big draw, with attendees grabbing limited-edition apparel and collectibles. However, I have to be honest about the wait times. The line was insane, and I heard staff mentioning that they were expecting even longer queues as the week progressed. If you are planning to check it out, you need to be prepared to stand around for a while. It is worth it, but you should bring water and maybe a friend to chat with while you wait.
As we get closer to the 1.0 launch, the conversation is starting to shift toward the long-term economy and progression systems. Grinding Gear Games has always been known for its complex trading ecosystem, and this new version is likely to follow suit. To prepare for the grind, many veteran players are already looking into the best ways to acquire essential resources. A lot of the chatter online revolves around Path of Exile 2 Currency, particularly how to obtain high-value orbs and crafting materials efficiently. While the demo gave us a taste of the action, the real battle will be in the endgame, where currency management becomes just as important as combat strategy.
